I just thought of this, there is a lot of stuff when it comes to ride quality, so I ask this. Being a fan of big plushy rides, what car do you most associate with a very comfortable ride? For me, there can be only one.

Kinja'd!!!

While I’ve yet to have one be thrust upon me and have yet to drive one, there will never be a more bench-mark for comfort than a Lincoln Mark V. It’s not just the quiet cabin or the soft suspension, even those glorious 70s velour seats seem like the kind of thing to just sink into and get lost in, I always thought these cars looked like the ultimate sensory depravation chambers imaginable.

What about you guys, what car do you associate with a quiet, comfortable, ride?

Comfortable? Definitely.

Quiet? Only when going <20 mph.

Sorry if I ask a stupid question, but that's a Citroen C6 is it not?

American Land Yachts, German executive autobahn cruisers, British “aristocracy” marks, and the Lexus LS.

Yes, but that could be anything with air/hydra suspension like Rangies, my C5, and so on.

All good choices, but two things.

1) British “aristocracy”, are you just talking about stuff like Rolls Royce and Bentley, or are you including stuff like Jaguar in there?

2) German executive autobahn cruisers, never heard of that class before. Could you give some examples so I might understand what they are exactly?

1. Cars like the Jaguar XJ and Range Rover Autobiography would be included.

2. Mercedes S-Class, Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, Maybach.

In the same family, but a few years earlier. 1965. Had one. Glad you said comfortable ride and not handling.

Pretty much all GM B-bodies, especially the velour interior ones from the 70s-90s. Even the sportiest were pretty plush. They had power steering with so much boost that you could drive them one-fingered and they were huge.

Most Lincoln Town Cars fit the bill, too.

Cadillac SLS. FWD, plushy seats, optional magride (I think), just screams comfy in my mind.

Handling comes at a price my friend, and considering the roads where I live aren't great, I wouldn't want good handling if it comes at the price of making my lower back sore.

While it may be older, I can vouch for a similar comfort from my Eldorado.

For me it was the 1990’s Caprice...it was our chosen family hauler for trips from SF Bay Area down to LA to visit my great grandmother since it was the only car we had at the time that sat six...I still remember the plush seats and the rear central gas filler...
